Melbourne showed its best performance this 2017 achieving a 82 percent auction clearance rate on the first Super Saturday of auctions in the city. The total number of homes listed was more than a thousand, specifically 1,395 while the number of reported auctions was 1,077. A total of 892 properties were sold with total sales amounting to more than $706,777,000. The median price recorded was $850,000.

The western suburbs again hosted the highest number of auctions at 237 followed by the inner south, north east, inner city, inner east, outer east, the north and south east (100). The most popular suburb with the most number of auctions held this weekend was Reservoir followed by St Kilda, Camberwell and Elwood, East Bentleigh and East Malvern, Glen Iris, Coburg, East Doncaster and Williamstown.

In the region, Victoria followed the same trend as Melbourne recording a 82 percent clearance rate with 1,168 auctions held. Of the total, 811 were sold at auction and 150 before auction. Of the 961 that were selling, 207 were passed in with 85 on a vendor bid.

The clearance rate for houses was also high at 85 percent while the rate for units/apartments was 77 percent. The total auction volume recorded was $974 million. As for private sales, Victoria recorded 298 with total sale volume of $195 million.

More than 3,100 auctions are scheduled in Victoria for the month of February alone.
